A Halloween to Remember with Toyota

Toyota Beginnings

On October 31st, 1957, it was no “trick” when Toyota set down roots in North America. In fact, as the years continued to go on, it would prove to not only be a good decision on Toyota’s part, but it would be a real “treat” for Americans and Canadians alike.

As one of the best-selling vehicle makers of all time, Toyota brought plenty of goodies to the table when they brought their brand name to North America. However, it wasn’t an overnight success when they launched the first vehicle, the Toyota Crown, on new soil.

Cash for Scrap Cars with Mechanical Issues

More Cash For Scrap has been Metro Vancouver’s favourite scrap car removal company since 2005. That’s because we understand the true value of the vehicles we buy, particularly Toyota. No other scrap car buyers in the Lower Mainland can offer as much cash for scrap cars made by Toyota as we can.

Whether you’re trashing a Toyota, junking a Jeep, or disposing of a Dodge, you’ll get a great offer when you choose More Cash For Scrap. Because we love buying scrap cars of any make, model, and year.

Toyota Comes to North America

Toyota Corolla

One spooky night on Halloween in 1957, Toyota landed on American soil and would forever change the face of the automotive world. Okay, maybe it wasn’t a “spooky” night when Toyota entered North America, but it was Halloween day!

Anyways… Toyota began its “invasion” of North America on this day in 1957. They set up operations out of Hollywood, California, where the released the first Toyota vehicle in America, the Toyota Crown.

An Automotive Legend Is Born

Although Toyota thought the Crown (also known as the Toyopet) would be a home run, it turned out to be a complete flop due to its small size and limited capabilities. In a world that was full of new families and relying heavily on cars for everything, a vehicle with limited power was simply not adequate for most North American buyers.

Over the first year, they would only sell 286 units of the Crown, and a single, solitary Land Cruiser. It’s these sales that prompted some real engineering, change, and of course, design to make Toyota go from nothing to something over the new few years.

What Was Toyota’s First Vehicle Ever in North America?

Toyopet, Toyota's first car

The Toyopet, also known as the Crown, was the first vehicle very sold in North America under Toyota’s name. And while the Land Cruiser was sold alongside it, neither made a big name for Toyota at the beginning.

It wasn’t until 1961, when Toyota decided to make the Land Rover the frontrunner of their brand name in North America. This kept their sales at a reasonable level until 1965.

Later that year, Toyota would release the Corona (no, not the beer!) which would be the first family sedan the company produced to create a spike in sales, which continued on an upward trend for the next 2 years. Toyota then became the third best-selling import vehicle in America.

We Pay MORE Cash for Toyota Vehicles Than the Other Guys!

Fast-forward another year, and Toyota releases the Corolla, their best-selling vehicle of all time. In fact, the Toyota Corolla is still one of the best-selling vehicles in their line-up today.

To date, there have been 45 million Toyota Corolla’s produced and sold worldwide. Which is why we pay so much money for scrap Toyota Corolla’s here at More Cash For Scrap.

Most Common Problems on Toyota Corolla

Toyota's beginnnings

If you take a look at the list, there aren’t many things that go wrong on a Toyota Corolla. And what does, usually doesn’t break the bank. Which is why even scrap Toyota Corolla’s are worth a pretty penny compared to other scrap vehicles.

1. Excessive Oil Consumption

This particular issue mainly affected 2002-2009 models. However, it has appeared periodically throughout every year the company makes.

And while the burning of oil usually indicates that engine failure is on the horizon, it’s not typically the case with the Toyota Corolla. The only time consumers reported engine failure is when they failed to continue to top up their oil, which lead to the engine seizing from a lack of oil.

Even Toyota Corolla’s that need a new engine are worth considerably MORE than any other scrap car, truck, SUV, or van on the market, when you scrap it with More Cash For Scrap. We pay MORE cash for scrap cars made by Toyota than any other scrap car removal company in Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.

2. Faulty Airbags

Cash-For-Damaged-Cars-Vancouver

Affecting primarily the 2011-2019 models, malfunctioning airbags are one of the most common problems reported on Toyota Corollas in North America.

The majority of people who encountered this problem were alerted to it because the SRS indicator light came on when they hadn’t been involved in any kind of collision. Reports stated that when the company investigated it, there was a high risk of metal fragments being thrown at passengers when the airbags were deployed in a collision.

Various recalls were issued over models ranging from 2003-2019 because of this defect. If your vehicle was part of the recall, the repair is covered. However, if your vehicle was already damaged in an accident and had the airbags deployed, you can still sell it to More Cash For Scrap.

3. Water Pump Failure

Replacing a water pump isn’t a big deal on most sedans. However, if you don’t know that there is an issue and it doesn’t get addressed, it could result in your engine overheating. Thus, you could need an engine replacement.

Toyota’s are built to last. Unlike any other vehicle, they go and go and go. Even when they are having cooling issues. However, if you notice the thermostat climbing during short drives and particularly when it’s not hot outside, you need to have your vehicle checked out.

A professional mechanic, like our friends at DeRosa Automotive Services can inspect your vehicle for defects. Not only that, they can tell you if you have more than one problem going on under the hood.

Fortunately, More Cash For Scrap is always happy to buy vehicles with mechanical issues. Even when there is more than one going on! If you have an aging vehicle that has problems that are starting to pile up, give us a call. We always pay MORE cash for scrap cars than the other guys!

What Toyota’s Corolla’s Have the Most Problems?

scrap toyota car and truck removal services in Vancouver

Like any vehicle, there are good years and bad years when it comes to production and defects. The more you produce, the more at risk a vehicle is for deficiencies. That’s because when you mass produce any type of product, even a vehicle, the incident rate for problems is statistically higher.

The Years of Toyota Corolla’s to Avoid Are:

  • 2003
  • 2004
  • 2005
  • 2006
  • 2007
  • 2009
  • 2014

If you’ve got a Corolla that falls within these years and are experiencing issues, you may want to consider scrapping it. Call and talk to our scrap car removal team today and we can help you decide if fixing it is the best course of action, or if scrapping it would better suit your needs.
